The Shattering is the the name of the event in which Arthe entered the Unfathomable and destroyed the Soul of Glass.
At the time the Noble Gods where occupied in the Divinity Wars and there was no sign of the conflict stopping any time soon.
Search for Divinity
Arthe was growing tired of the conflict between the gods, she was the most powerful of them, but exactly for this reason her enemies had allied against her many times. Her status and power were not enough, we needed a way to win or at least stop the war, and to do that she needed a new source of Divinity.
The essence of Divinity
Arthe knew well that the origin of Divinity was The Soul of Glass, one of the Voices. Divinity is nothing more than will, will to exist, will to live outside the Song.
To kill a Voice
Arthe decided that the only way for her to obtain enough Divinity to stop the wars, was to take it from the origin. And so she begun to plot how to destroy a Voice.
The Second Sin
Even if she knew what to do, Arthe had no idea of how to destroy a Voice, she didn’t even knew if it could be done. But she knew who to ask: the one that was abdoned by the other voices, The Stranded Light. The Voice accepted the plea of Arthe in exchange of two things: first she would kill the other gods so that they could never again bring destruction on the mortals, and then she would kill herself to atone for the act she was about to commit.
To make sure the Arthe upheld her promises, The Stranded Light would keep with her Mael, the favorite and first child of the goddess, as collateral.
Arthe accepted and the Voice gave her a Song filled with Sin, a song to burn and shatter, The Break of Dawn.
The Shattering
Using her unique ability to enter the Unfathomable and the song given to her by the Stranded Light, she destroyed the Soul of Glass and shattered her essence, gaining an almost unending source of Divinity.
She kept the event a secret from everyone and returned from the Unfathomable with a power no one dared to oppose.
Divinity to be Given
Using the fragments of the Divinity she obtained, Arthe showed the other gods the she had enough power to never need to take divinity from a children ever again. In the end, Arthe brought all the gods togheter to form a pact: the Signature of the World, so that all the children of the gods could live.
To Live and Betray
After the Signature and the end of the wars, Arthe was called by the Stranded Light to uphold her promises, to kill the other gods and herself, so that Mael could be returned to the world, but she refused. Arthe forsake her first child, so that she and her brothers and sisters could live.
